Read Library eBooks on Your Kindle Paperwhite

Your Kindle Paperwhite can't run the Libby app, but you can still borrow library eBooks and send them to your Kindle in a few quick steps!

How it works

  1. Update your Kindle and sign in
    • See these instructions on how to check and update your software version, depending on which Kindle model you have.
    • Make sure your Kindle is signed in to your Amazon account.
  2. Borrow the book
    • In Libby (Overdrive), borrow the book you'd like to read and then tap Read with Kindle.
    • You should automatically be taken to Amazon's website where you'll need to sign in and then tap Get Library Book.
  3. Sync and read
    • Connect your Kindle to Wi‑Fi and tap Sync. The book will download and you’re all set!

Quick tips

  • Book not showing up? Re‑sync, check Wi‑Fi, and confirm delivery in your Amazon account under Content & Devices.
  • Finished early? The eBook will be returned automatically at the end of the lending period, but if you'd like to return it early here's a guide walking you through the steps.
  • Want to read the book on a different device? Your borrowed eBook will appear on all Kindle apps and devices associated with your Amazon account.
  • Using multiple Amazon accounts at home? Your Kindle device and Amazon checkout (Step 3) must use the same account.
  • Only looking for eBooks that can be sent to Kindle? In Libby, click the Filter icon, scroll down to the Read With… section, select Kindle, and then tap the Show Titles button.
    • Here's a quick tutorial if you're having trouble finding it!
