Library Hours Expansion Update

The Library is moving ahead with plans to expand hours later this fall.

For the latest news about open hours, see these new post from September 2023 and January 2024.

From our November 14, 2022 Update:

Palo Alto Libraries are currently recruiting additional staff, including Library Specialists and Library Clerks. Once staff recruitments are completed, the Library will be expanding hours at Downtown, Children's, and College Terrace branches to four days per week. Additional plans are underway to expand hours at Mitchell Park and Rinconada Libraries in early 2023. As updates become available, they will be posted here, opens a new window

On June 20, 2022, the City Council adopted the FY23 budget that will restore additional hours to the Library that had been reduced over the last two years due to the pandemic and economic shifts. This includes adding a fourth day of service to the Children’s, College Terrace and Downtown Libraries; a sixth day to Mitchell Park and Rinconada Libraries; and the hiring of additional staff.

The Library is working with the Human Resources Department to fill vacancies and move forward with the expansion of library hours. As staff vacancies are filled, the Library plans to phase the expansion of hours starting this fall through the end of 2022.
