Children’s Library is Expanding Hours

Children’s Library will open two additional days on Mondays and Fridays, starting July 8. This branch will be open Monday to Saturday from 10 AM–6 PM.

Built in 1940, the Children's Library was the first freestanding library in the United States just for children. The library provides materials and events for children from birth through 5th grade in a fun and inviting garden setting.

Restoration of Hours

The Palo Alto City Library has worked diligently to restore hours at all five branch locations, after needing to implement budget reductions in staffing, collections and business hours in 2020 due to the pandemic closure. Branch hours have increased in phases since 2022, as staff vacancies were filled. In addition to reopening branches and filling vacancies, the library has continued to provide in-person and virtual events for all ages and has recently re-launched its Words on Wheels Home Delivery Service.
