The City is closely monitoring the Air Quality Index (AQI), opens a new window in Palo Alto, and the Library is aligning with the City’s operational policies. The AQI is fluctuating between Yellow/Moderate to Red/Unhealthy today and is forecasted to remain at these levels through Friday, August 28. When air quality is Yellow, or Moderate, air quality is acceptable. However, there may be a risk for some people, particularly those who are unusually sensitive to air pollution. Elderly persons, children, and individuals with respiratory illnesses are particularly susceptible to elevated air pollution levels and should take extra precautions to avoid exposure.
While Sidewalk Service is kept in the lobby of both Mitchell Park and Rinconada Libraries, the front doors remain open, exposing poor air quality to staff and customers coming to the Library. We will suspend services if the AQI reaches above 150/Red. As we continue to monitor the situation, please check our website, opens a new window, social media, and/or AQI, opens a new window or call 329-2436 before coming to the Library. Thank you for your understanding.
Stay safe & healthy!
