Art Gallery: Chinese Lunar New Year Cut-Out

By Ellie, Grade 10

As a project for my Chinese class, I used an exacto knife to carve out a circular design depicting the zodiac symbol for 2025, a snake. I also included other customary Chinese symbols: cherry blossoms for hope in the renewal of a year, oranges for wealth, koi fish for perseverance and prosperity, and the fú character for blessing or good fortune. Taking the time to carve it made me appreciate the patience and delicacy to the traditional Chinese custom.
