The eLibrary team will be experimenting with Virtual Office Hours to help customers with eBooks and other library apps on their devices using the video chat features built into Amazon Echo Show home devices.
Using their own Amazon Echo devices or Amazon Echo apps on their devices, customers can contact eLibrary staff for answering questions about the library’s digital resources and troubleshooting library apps. Interested customers are recommended to go to the How to Use Virtual Office Hours? page to set things up.
The pilot will run from Aug 19th to Sept 20th. We recommend customers to check the Library's calendar for the up-to-date opening hours.
Our experiment with Amazon Echo Shows is part of a Pacific Library Partnership (PLP) grant to test home assistant technologies in library contexts. Among the focus of the project, the library is analyzing privacy issues, popularity and logistical issues around such issues. A final report will be submitted to PLP in the Fall.
